Seventy and Superb
This year is my seventieth year and I decided to blog it as I am in a new decade. There have been ups and downs but the nicest time has been with my art and creative writing groups. Thank you everyone and merry Christmas.

Supporting the Green Party with Grayson Perry
|
I am delighted to announce the launch of Green Creates… , the Green Party's first ever art exhibition.
50 talented artists have produced amazing pieces of artwork on the theme of 'Green Voices' and donated them to the party, creating an amazing display of creativity, activism, nature, passion and expression across a diverse range of media.
Some of the talented artists who have contributed include Grayson Perry, Ralph Steadman, Lesley Hilling and Andy Goldsworthy.
The exhibition will run from 19-24 October at Hoxton Arches, 402 Cremer Street, London E2 8HD, so do please pop in and view it, if you are in the area.
If you are unable to make it down, please click here to view the exhibition catalogue.
If you have any queries about the exhibition, or would like to purchase one of the pieces, please contact us on office@greenparty.org.uk or telephone 0203 691 9400.
Best Wishes,

Somerset Open Studios
This month sees me very busy. After a hectic, funtime in our old place of residence in Ealing we returned home on Sunday evening in anover packed train back to the station car park. There we found our car sitting lonely and waiting in the car park to speed us home in five minutes to our peaceful and comforting home. Our two cats were happy to see us after being wonderfully cared for by our good neighbour, Sue. I shall take a bottle of wine in tomorrow to thank her and we may share a glass or two.
London is getting very much more difficult for our frail bodies. We loved seeing the five grandchildren, w ho are growing up well and celebrating Martin's fortieth birthday but negotiating escalators out of order with our case and encountering closed facilities, left us tired and frustrated. Then John went to an ATM and instead of withdrawing £30 instead the option only was for £300 which he hadn't realised and this came with a shock especially as we had been spending quite heavily in London enjoying ourselves. Well, we can take stock now and I thought I would extoll the virtues of Somerset.
Somerset Art Week
After being left an unexpected legacy by my Uncle George I decided to take part in Somerset Open Studios this year. It took place in Wellington Quaker Meeting House. I shared the space with my Quaker Friend, Avril Silk who is a stained glass artist and writer. I am an amateur artist and writer. We had over one hundred visitors who signed the visitor's book and I thought it was a very pleasurable experience altogether. To see excerpts go to this link -
Somerset Open Studio Zoe And Avril
Friends old and new came to see us. We had passing trade and unexpected and wonderful conversations about art and creative writing. The Lady Mayor of Taunton Deane made a visit for the whole of one morning and it was a real pleasure. The following week she also visited at Taunton Library where I facilitate creative writing
I sold two paintings and many books. To see my other books go to this link-
Adult books by Zoe
To reduce publishing cost I now make my children's stories into video narrated stories for children, to see more go to my new Youtube Channel in this link

Somerset is a quiet and unassuming place full of hidden pleasures and happiness. I thank all of my friends and Friends for making this county my home. As I get older and frailer I am grateful for such things and the peace that I have found in Somerset.

Sending images of my Tao Art Book to Youtube
I was very lucky to meet a friend who introduced me to Zen Calligraphy and I found this to be a very useful form of meditation.
As an add on to this, I proceeded to make images from the unconscious, also meditational in origin and made a square keepsake book using a very inexpensive square memory book from the Works.
I then covered the book in hessian, from the internet and bought a yin and yang necklace from the internet also that I used for a way of closing the book with a buckle I had in my stash.
Altogether I enjoy making books of all kinds, but especially one off art books. I would like to get better at doing this and become more accurate. I think my health wasn't good when I completed it so please excuse any errors of measurement. So here it is click the link Tao Square
Incidently my name means "life" in Greek so I have chosen this calligraphy to sign my book.

Serious Art Exhibition
Since I last wrote I have had a setback with health in that I am now diagnosed with Polymyalgia instead of fibromyalgia which has meant a change in medication. During that time I have undertaken to support Taunton Live 2016.
I did not realise how much work would be involved and I am very grateful to Chris Dart for helping me hang the exhibtion and also to Taunton Quaker Meeting for adopting me as an artist.
For those who would like to view an overview of the exhibition here is a link
Taunton Live 2016 - Creative Corner
The exhibition centred around my research into the origin of nursery rhymes and networking with other artists in the town and talking to visitors it was very successful.

Sound Studio
Sound Studio
In the up and down of my seventies, I had a special experience at Ignite at Somerset Film in Bridgwater Somerset.
I was lucky enough to be given a free run of the sound studio to record my children's stories to put as audio books on Amazon.
I try in my stories to give children hope. Hope for the future and hope that they will succeed and be heard.
The stories are:
Miss Flimp's Destiny
Miss Patch
Miss Posey's Garden
Miss Flimp and the Celebration of Light ( This last book is free on Smashwords.)
They reflect my integrity from being a Quaker for thirty years.
I thank Somerset Film very much for this opportunity and hope that in the future I can do more work with them.

Sad Times For Britain?
It is very sobering after all the dross of referendum campaigns that we now are faced with the reality of building our country and our economy in a very different way. Hard times are on the way I fear. I believe in democracy and will accept the majority view.
If there are any younger people reading this blog please, I would like to let you know that both myself and my husband are members of the Green Party and part of our commitment comes from wanting a better world for our children and grandchildren.
We were part of the 40% of older people that voted to remain, Please, please do not have a knock on effect of ageism which is difficult for us as it is. My husband delivered 500 leaflets on behalf of the remain campaign.
To young people out there, please don't let this referendum be divisive in society. Believe me, there are a lot of responsible older people really on your side.
